Dear Ollie Outoftown,
It is obvious that the quilting bug has bitten a lot of people. There were
three new people at the meeting and all that didn’t join our group are planning
to join at the next meeting.
Sharon began the meeting with a handout about labeling our quilts so that those who inherit them and know their purpose will easily identify them. We all hope the ones that receive them will appreciate the love and patience we put into making our quilts. She also explained to anyone new about the block challenge and the monthly block lotto so we could all be up to speed.
We’re
starting a buddy system for the ones that don’t have Internet connection to
inform them about the latest quilting plans.
We hope
someday to have a newsletter for the members who aren’t connected to the net but
for now word of mouth will have to do.
We saw the fabric for the raffle quilt and have decided to meet the first Saturday of the month to work on the guild projects downstairs at the RAC and bring sack lunch or maybe pot luck. We will have to wait for confirmation on the date from Sharon as soon as Heather gives her the O.K.
Some of the members brought books to go in our library that members can checkout for a month at a time, so if you have any duplicates that you don’t mind sharing with the group then bring them with you next time and our library will be up and running.
Some of the quilters brought fat quarters to swap since we probably all bought at least one yard of fabric when Hancock’s was going out of business that we really don’t need. There was even talk of a fat chance lotto beginning in the near future.
Judy demonstrated this month’s block, which is to be made of cream to off
white fabric and 1930’s reproduction type fabric in the churn dash pattern.
This one looks easy and believe it or not I’m getting better at having my blocks
turnout the right size. It probably would help if I didn’t wait until midnight
the night before the meeting to sew them together.
Show and tell is always the favorite time of the meeting for me. Some of the girls went together and pooled the nine-patch blocks to make a top that Lawana and C.C. are quilting at the R.S.V.P. Center.
Judy showed us a block that she pieced at a class she took from Marti Michell in Cullman, Al.
Jada’e showed her first quilt that she made and told us that she received a blue
ribbon it at the quilt show in Arkansas last week. That’s mighty impressive for
a seven year old since she was competing against some adult quilters
Julia showed us a small wall hanging piece of the clock tower that she did in
the thread painting style of quilting.
Oh by the way I forgot to mention that she also won a set of blocks and she had them set together in the most interesting way. I’m impressed at the imagination and talent she has.
Shirley showed off a purse she made from a pattern she got at Paducah and from
some going out of business fabric from Hancock’s.
Sandi had a work in progress of a grandmother’s flower garden that she was doing in the English paper piece style. I hope she hang’s with it cause it’s really looking good.
There were four winners this month for the lotto and they were Lauren Hutchins, Jan Grondin, Joanne Slancauskas, and Terry Turnage. Each of them received extra blocks to choose from and promised to return the ones they didn’t use so the guild could use them for a work project in the future.
Well that’s about all there is to tell except that maybe we can have a quilt show next July at the art center with small pieces for sell to help raise money for the guild so we can expand our charitable efforts through quilting.
Sew long,
Katie O’Possum
