The meeting began with Sharon announcing that our future meetings will be held at the Columbus Art Center down town. A time change for the meeting was discussed and everyone liked the idea of starting at 10:30 a.m. and going until 12:30, that way it would take less time out of the middle of the day. Our next meeting is on May 19th.
Sharon demonstrated how to fold fabric to make it fit better on a shelf, by folding the fabric like it comes off the bolt (salvage to salvage) and wrapping it around a 6 1/2 “ ruler then sliding the ruler out and folding the piece in half. It makes for a nice and neat piece to put on the shelf. There was a discussion on why fabric is cut cross grain or lengthwise grain. When cutting for a boarder it is often suggested that you cut it on the length wise grain, because it is more stable and less likely to stretch and make your quilt have a wavy edge.
It was decided that everyone wanted to do a Block Challenge and that Sharon, Mary Ann and Shirley would look for fabrics during their trip to Paducah for the AQS Quilt Show on the 24th of April. The resulting quilt made from the Challenge Blocks will be used to make a quilt to donate to the Art Center for their annual auction, in payment for them allowing us to meet there. Also, Sharon is to try and find fabric for the raffle quilt for next year.
The Block Lotto yielded enough blocks to give away 9 groups of blocks for lap size quilts. The Lucky winners were: Suzy Houser, Sharon Hedrick, Ruby Dillon, Ebba Kellum, Judy Stokes, CC Coggins, Jackie Barnes, Lawana Schultz and Lorri Willett. Congratulations to all the winners. A reminder to all the past winners that you are pledged to continue participation in the block lotto until all members have a quilt to put together. If we keep doing as well as we have been, it won’t take very long and then we will change it up a little.

Sharon demonstrated the Block of the Month (Friendship Star) which is to be made with a neutral background and jewel or tone on tone med to dark fabric. The blocks are to be 12 ½ “ unfinished the same as we have been doing.
Several members that went to the Northwind Block class at Meridian, brought some
of their blocks to show. Everyone was intrigued by the possibilities of this
block and all are looking forward to doing a workshop on the Northwind Block.

We had several members bring items for show and tell.
